Newport, Rhode Island

A proven New England cruiser, ready for what lies beyond.

1995 Island Packet 40 · Hull № 43

“Dream Catcher” has spent most of her life in New England from Newport to Bar Harbor, the Chesapeake Bay, and voyages to the Bahamas and the Florida Keys. Numerous upgrades are a reflection of the owner’s attention to detail, safety and comfort.

The Island Packet 40 quickly established itself as an industry benchmark for high quality cruising sailboats with its sparkling performance, superior safety and seakeeping capabilities, ease of handling and spacious and livable accommodations. The cutter rig, standard on every Island Packet, has long been recognized as the most versatile and manageable sail plan for offshore cruisers.

The vessel

Safe, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped.

The Island Packet 40 has earned its reputation, alongside the other Island Packet models, as a top-quality offshore cruising platform. Storage in the IP 40 is immense. As a testament to Island Packet the hull and deck are completely free of surface cracks and chips, often seen in boats after only a few years. If you are considering the cruising lifestyle and are looking for a strong, safe and comfortable yacht to do it on — whether gunkholing locally or voyaging to faraway destinations across the oceans of the world — you owe it to yourself to consider our offering.

Below the waterline the Island Packet 40 was one of the first models to be equipped with Island Packets’ Full Foil Keel®, providing lift in the same fashion as one would find on a fin keel, while providing the sea kindly performance of a long keel. This feature brings numerous benefits to the cruising sailor: great protection from damage or fouling of the prop and rudder, a moderate draft with exceptional stability characteristics for shallow water gunkholing or worldwide cruising and winning performance capabilities.

Electrical — batteries & alternator

  • Most of the time Dream Catcher is off the docks, so energy is important. We have reached a balanced system, whereby the daily electrical needs are typically more than met by the solar system. The 3 solar panels pump up to 20 Ah on clear days. This more than replaces the 100 Ah used on a typical day at anchor or sailing. Most days at 8pm batteries are usually near 100% full. In the morning we usually see 88-92% remaining. 5 hours of sun brings them back to 100%.
